This is an exciting time to join us. The three NHS trusts that currently run Broomfield, Southend and Basildon hospitals are planning to become a new single NHS organisation by mid-2019.
All three hospitals will continue to provide the services our patients use the most. These include outpatient appointments, children’s services and day-case surgery. All three hospitals will continue to provide 24/7 A&E and maternity services.
By working as one team we will provide the same high standard of care and services for all of our 1.2m local residents. Using the same equipment, processes and IT systems means services will run more smoothly. Single leadership, standards and new structures will speed up decision making. Combined corporate services will reduce duplication and cut running costs. This means more money for front-line services and faster improvements.

The Capital Projects Teams at MSB Hospitals Group (Mid Essex Hospitals Trust, Southend University Hospitals NHS FT and Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS FT) are responsible for the delivery of an extensive programme of estates infrastructure investment across the group, in support of the three organisations’ wider transformation objectives.
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and skilled individual to take a key leadership role in the team and help deliver an exciting programme of work.
The Head of Estates Strategy & Planning will lead a team of healthcare estates projects professionals across the three-hospital group, and will be responsible for assuring, driving, reporting and tracking the successful implementation of a complex transformation strategy across a programme of work.
Reporting to the Group Director of Capital Projects, the post-holder will lead the development and maintenance of the MSB Group’s Joint Estates Strategy and Masterplan, in conjunction with planning the estates programme of works in support of the clinical, clinical support, and corporate transformation programmes within the group. Based at Basildon Hospital, they will be expected to be highly mobile, flexible and pro-active in the management and monitoring of the investment programmes, ensuring visibility and support to the teams at all locations within the group and beyond.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
