Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.

We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.

We want staff who will live our trust values every day.

Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable

This is an exciting time to join us. The three NHS trusts that currently run Broomfield, Southend and Basildon hospitals are planning to become a new single NHS organisation by mid-2019.

All three hospitals will continue to provide the services our patients use the most. These include outpatient appointments, children’s services and day-case surgery.  All three hospitals will continue to provide 24/7 A&E and maternity services.

By working as one team we will provide the same high standard of care and services for all of our 1.2m local residents. Using the same equipment, processes and IT systems means services will run more smoothly.  Single leadership, standards and new structures will speed up decision making.  Combined corporate services will reduce duplication and cut running costs. This means more money for front-line services and faster improvements.

Attracting new talent is key to our future and the scale of our organisation will give far  more career, training and development opportunities for all our staff.

COME AND JOIN OUR TEAM!

These are exciting times as we look to recruit a Theatre Nurse to work in our busy Operating Theatres. We have 15 theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties including General Surgery, Breast and an expanding Vascular service, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Oral, ENT and some Plastic Surgery. At Southend we have invested heavily in our facilities, we have modern operating Theatre suites, and boast a world class Laparoscopic Theatre and Hybrid Theatre.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are patient focused and strive to deliver high quality and safe patient care. You should be committed to working effectively within multi-professional teams and have excellent communication skills. A desire to join a team to develop and implement innovative practice within the theatre complex is essential.

We are a friendly and welcoming unit who will support you in your new role by providing a comprehensive induction package. You have the opportunity to work in all of the specialties supported by our practice development team and our senior Band 6 and 7staff. In addition to in house education we also have strong links with the simulation suite at the local university providing excellent opportunities for staff to attend simulation study days.

The need to be flexible with your hours is essential. The shift patterns include late shifts, weekend and an on call commitment.

As a place to live, work and enjoy life, Southend on Sea has a lot to offer. The border touches sea, city and countryside with some of England’s prettiest villages and liveliest towns. It is also just under an hour from London making it an ideal base to explore the capital city. We also benefit from being close to Southend Airport which is developing all the time and regularly flies to many European cities.
