Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.

We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.

We want staff who will live our trust values every day.

Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable

This is an exciting time to join us. The three NHS trusts that currently run Broomfield, Southend and Basildon hospitals are planning to become a new single NHS organisation by mid-2019.

All three hospitals will continue to provide the services our patients use the most. These include outpatient appointments, children’s services and day-case surgery.  All three hospitals will continue to provide 24/7 A&E and maternity services.

By working as one team we will provide the same high standard of care and services for all of our 1.2m local residents. Using the same equipment, processes and IT systems means services will run more smoothly.  Single leadership, standards and new structures will speed up decision making.  Combined corporate services will reduce duplication and cut running costs. This means more money for front-line services and faster improvements.

Attracting new talent is key to our future and the scale of our organisation will give far  more career, training and development opportunities for all our staff.

The Ambulatory Emergency Care unit is looking for caring and compassionate Registered Nurses to join their bright and friendly team.

The Registered Nurse will be expected to provide high standards of effective patient care. They will work as a member of the clinical nursing team, alongside a Registered Nurse or other qualified Allied Healthcare Professional, within the AECU and Clinical Decisions Unit.

The Registered Nurse will provide a mix of both general and specific care to patients and will be proficient and competent to work alongside medical team.

Please see attached job description for full details.

The Unit: There are two units based on Dowsett Ward, this is the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and the Clinical Decisions Unit.

The Ambulatory Emergency Care Service aims to rapidly investigate and treat patients so they can go home on the same day. There will also be some patients who are seen by the medical team during the evening who will be assessed as being able to go home and return the next day to the AEC for further investigations and review.

The Clinical Decisions Unit aims to keep patients under the care of the ED who may need monitoring for a longer period than the 4 hour target.

Our aim is to provide a supportive environment fostering person-centered care to enable patients to reach their optimum level of health and independence. We treat a wide variety of acute medical conditions from across all specialties, including respiratory cardiac and neurological conditions as well as other conditions, which may require careful observation, intravenous drugs or skilled assessment.

We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, can use their own initiative and are open to new ideas, are interested in working within a team that can develop the service and can implement change. Ideally you will have experience in an acute healthcare setting and be able to communicate clearly and confidently with patients, relatives and members of staff.
