Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.
We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.
We want staff who will live our trust values every day.
Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable
This is an exciting time to join us. The three NHS trusts that currently run Broomfield, Southend and Basildon hospitals are planning to become a new single NHS organisation by mid-2019.
All three hospitals will continue to provide the services our patients use the most. These include outpatient appointments, children’s services and day-case surgery. All three hospitals will continue to provide 24/7 A&E and maternity services.
By working as one team we will provide the same high standard of care and services for all of our 1.2m local residents. Using the same equipment, processes and IT systems means services will run more smoothly. Single leadership, standards and new structures will speed up decision making. Combined corporate services will reduce duplication and cut running costs. This means more money for front-line services and faster improvements.
Attracting new talent is key to our future and the scale of our organisation will give far more career, training and development opportunities for all our staff.
Three mid and south east Essex Acute trusts are operating within a rapidly changing, challenging but very exciting time of whole system reformation. The Trusts are in partnership as a fast developing hospital network currently comprising of Southend University Hospital NHS FT, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Mid Essex Hospital NHS Trust (the msb Group). Over the next few years, through working together, they will define the future of care for the population of mid and south Essex.
As part of this acute trust collaboration we are redesigning our hospitals to ensure we meet rising demand with the best quality services. The Pharmacy Department is at the forefront of our service redesign and one of the first departments within the msb Group to offer the opportunities for developing standardised systems across the three hospitals, re-designing new and ongoing services as the clinical configuration changes in line with the Carter Report. This is all being led by a chief pharmacist working in partnership across the group.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, innovative clinical pharmacist wishing to develop their leadership skills and clinical knowledge in this newly vacant post.
The post-holder will provide expert pharmaceutical knowledge to pharmacy, medical and nursing staff working across paediatrics, special care baby unit, maternity and gynaecology. This will include the management and development of the financial, governance and clinical aspects of medicines optimisation. The role will involve working alongside the specialist and rotational pharmacists, Pharmacy Operations Lead, Clinical Lead Pharmacist and colleagues across the other msb sites, as well as colleagues working in the CCG.
The role is advertised as a full time position, however, a job share arrangement could be considered. This will involve working up to 1 in 4 weekends, a weekly late shift, and the rest of the week from 9am – 5.10pm. These shifts will allow for a good work-life balance. As a senior pharmacist within a newly re-designed service, there will be scope to shape the service to maximise benefits for patients and staff alike.
The post-holder will have excellent communication and negotiating skills; will be able to work under pressure, and with excellent prioritisation skills. The post-holder will represent the department to senior nursing, medical and management colleagues within the Trust, and wider msb Group.
The post-holder will ideally have experience of working as a qualified independent prescriber, having completed a postgraduate diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent.
In return for your hard work and commitment we will give you the opportunity to develop your skills as a clinical practitioner in a friendly structured environment supported by an excellent team. As a senior clinical pharmacist, you will be expected to support education and training of more junior staff, including pre-registration pharmacists.
Southend Hospital is the first in Essex to implement electronic prescribing, using the JAC system, and we are at the forefront of developing and enhancing this system within the NHS. With excellent communication skills, you will play a key role in ensuring the Trust derives maximum benefit from e-Prescribing and the opportunities it provides to deliver true medicines optimisation. Southend-On-Sea is an exciting place to live, work and enjoy life. Just under an hour from London and Europe (either by rail or air), Southend and the surrounding area is vibrant and cosmopolitan. Local schools have an excellent reputation and the nearby seaside provides a pleasant backdrop as well as opportunities for fun and relaxation. The attractive nearby town of Leigh-On-Sea provides an alternative location for many professionals to settle and wind down after work.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
