Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.

We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the "as is" and to always put patients first.

We want staff who will live our trust values every day.

Do you want to be at the forefront of clinical pharmacy innovation?

Can you work with autonomy and motivation within a dedicated speciality?

Our medicines optimisation services are being transformed with investment in new technology and processes to place clinical pharmacy at the heart of our service to the Trust. If you want to be part of our innovative, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team we want you to be one of several new Clinical Pharmacists.

Supported by our excellent pharmacy team the post-holder will enjoy a role working as part of one of our designated pharmacy teams delivering ward-based services. The majority of your day will be spent in your designated ward areas working with the multidisciplinary team. You will rotate through various medical and surgical specialties and specialist technical services alongside some dispensary support. You will commence the postgraduate diploma supported by a senior Pharmacist tutor. Successful completion of the diploma with us will open the opportunity to join our existing band of independent prescribers and become a vital component in multidisciplinary ward based teams. This will require strong prioritisation and time management skills to enable you to work efficiently and effectively.

Southend University Hospital is the first in Essex to implement electronic prescribing, using the JAC system, and we are at the forefront of developing and enhancing this system within the NHS. In the past year, electronic prescribing has been successfully rolled out across the hospital. With excellent communication skills, you will play a key role in ensuring each speciality derives maximum benefit from e-Prescribing and the opportunities it provides to deliver true medicines optimisation.

We have a full robotic dispensary and have plans to outsource our outpatient work, to focus on ward-based activity. You will be involved in some weekend working, although it is planned that these duties will shift towards ward-orientated activities as well as the traditional dispensing function. The post-holder will provide on-call services on a rota basis.

Southend-On-Sea is an exciting place to live, work and enjoy life. Just under an hour from London and Europe (either by rail or air), Southend and the surrounding area is vibrant and cosmopolitan. Local schools have an excellent reputation and the nearby seaside provides a pleasant backdrop as well as opportunities for fun or relaxation. The attractive nearby town of popular Leigh-On-Sea provides an alternative location for many professionals to settle and wind down after work.

***Recent previous applicants need not reapply.
Applications will only be considered for Pharmacists who are currently registered as Pharmacists by the GPhC or Pre-registration Pharmacists due to qualify in summer 2017.***
